Service Health in Enterprise Systems: Metrics, Cadence, and Operational Readiness for Reliable Platforms

Abstract:

Enterprise systems today depend on distributed services, APIs, event-driven workflows, integrations, and cloud infrastructure. In such environments, service health cannot be measured only by uptime. A service may be technically available while still showing unhealthy behavior through rising latency, error spikes, throughput drops, retry storms, dependency failures, queue buildup, or saturation.

This talk discusses how enterprise teams can move from basic monitoring to intelligent service health management. It covers the core metrics that define service health, including reliability, availability, duration, error rate, throughput, saturation, and dependency health. It also explains how automated detection techniques such as anomaly detection, threshold-based alerts, trend analysis, log correlation, and incident signal aggregation can help identify risk before customers are impacted.

The session further explores why cadence matters: daily dashboards, weekly service reviews, SLO reviews, post-incident analysis, and continuous improvement loops. Finally, it highlights the downside of not practicing service health discipline, including delayed incident response, hidden degradation, customer escalations, SLA misses, and loss of trust in mission-critical enterprise platforms
