Digital Twin-Driven Project Management for Large-Scale Architectural Developments
Abstract:
The increasing scale and complexity of contemporary architectural developments have introduced significant challenges related to stakeholder coordination, project visibility, risk management, and construction performance. Large-scale residential compounds, hospitality destinations, cultural facilities, and mixed-use developments frequently involve numerous consultants, contractors, regulatory authorities, investors, and project teams operating simultaneously throughout extended project lifecycles. Under such conditions, fragmented information environments often create inefficiencies that negatively affect decision-making, project performance, and overall delivery outcomes. Digital Twin technology has emerged as a promising approach for addressing these challenges by providing dynamic digital representations of physical assets and project activities. Unlike traditional project-management systems that primarily document project status, Digital Twins integrate design information, construction progress, operational data, and performance metrics within a unified digital environment. This integration enables enhanced project visibility, improved stakeholder coordination, predictive risk identification, and more informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. This paper examines the role of Digital Twins in large-scale architectural project delivery. Particular attention is given to their contribution to interdisciplinary coordination, risk visibility, construction performance, and project management effectiveness. The study further explores emerging opportunities associated with data-driven decision-making and discusses the challenges that organizations face during Digital Twin implementation. The findings suggest that Digital Twins are evolving from technological tools into strategic project-management frameworks capable of improving delivery performance in increasingly complex development environments.
