From messy legacy data to AI-ready platforms: how AI is changing data migration and cleansing
Abstract:
Organizations are under pressure to retire legacy systems and modernize onto cloud-native, analytics-driven platforms, yet they are often held back by fragmented, poor-quality data and risky migration projects. This talk explores how artificial intelligence is reshaping the end-to-end data migration and cleansing lifecycle, turning a traditionally manual, error-prone exercise into an intelligence-driven capability. We will show how AI-powered tools can automatically profile legacy data, detect and remediate inconsistencies, duplicates, and missing values, and infer source–target mappings and transformation rules with far less human effort. We will also examine how machine learning enhances post-migration validation through anomaly detection, reconciliation, and continuous data quality monitoring, improving trust in the target platform. Along the way, we will discuss governance and compliance considerations, best practices for combining AI with traditional ETL processes, and common pitfalls to avoid when introducing AI into migration programs. Attendees will leave with a practical understanding of how to move from “messy legacy data” to clean, well-governed, AI-ready data platforms using today’s AI capabilities
