Building production grade UX platforms
Abstract:
In this talk, we delve into the field of presentation engineering, a vital component of software engineering that prioritizes the user experience in web applications. As the lines between web and native apps continue to blur, the role of presentation engineering in software architecture becomes increasingly pivotal. Today's web applications, particularly in e-commerce and social networking, require sophisticated presentation platforms to efficiently handle content-heavy and interaction-rich services. We will introduce the concept of presentation platform engineering, emphasizing its importance and exploring best practices for designing and operating scalable systems. Attendees will gain insights into engineering workflows tailored to address the complexities of modern web development, ensuring the effective delivery of engaging content and interactions at scale. Additionally, we will discuss the trade-offs inherent in these workflows, informed by empirical research, including developer experience surveys and release velocity assessments conducted within large-scale organizations like eBay Inc. This session aims to enhance understanding and refine practices within the evolving domain of presentation engineering, equipping practitioners with the knowledge to improve user experiences in today's dynamic web landscape.
