The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Next-Generation Wireless Technologies

Abstract:

As wireless communications transition toward 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is evolving from a top-layer operational add-on into an intrinsic, native architectural pillar across the protocol stack. Traditional mathematical signal processing struggles in dense Sub-THz environments, driving the shift toward deep learning autoencoders, neural receivers, and CSI feedback compression. At the RAN and Core levels, Open RAN Intelligent Controllers (RIC) and NWDAF enable zero-touch, closed-loop orchestration and dynamic intent-driven slicing. Furthermore, paradigms like Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) and Semantic Communications shift networks from bit-exact transmission to context-aware intent delivery. Grounded in 3GPP Releases 18–20 and ITU-R guidelines, this talk outlines key deployment challenges, Explainable AI (XAI) determinism, and federated privacy for future networks.
