Beyond the Monolith: Architecting Secure, Event-Driven Microservices in Regulated and Hybrid Environments

Abstract
Regulated organizations across finance, healthcare, government, and critical infrastructure are modernizing legacy platforms to improve scalability, resilience, and deployment speed while meeting strict requirements for security, auditability, data governance, and operational transparency across hybrid environments.
This session traces the evolution from monoliths to service-oriented architecture and microservices, demonstrating how event-driven architecture can decouple services across infrastructure and organizational boundaries. It explains how asynchronous event flows reduce temporal coupling, improve fault tolerance, and support incremental modernization without requiring lockstep migration of legacy systems.
The session presents a practical security model for asynchronous microservices, covering identity propagation, least-privilege authorization at the broker and topic levels, secure event transport, payload minimization, encryption, integrity validation, idempotency, and replay-safe processing.
Governance and compliance are presented as architectural capabilities through policy-as-code, versioned event schemas, auditable configuration changes, immutable event logs, standardized correlation metadata, and end-to-end observability. A representative public-sector and financial-services case study will demonstrate gradual modernization through an event backbone while preserving regulatory trust.
The session concludes with emerging directions in secure event fabrics, federated compliance, AI-assisted observability, and adaptive governance, showing how organizations can create resilient, automated, and compliance-aware architectures without sacrificing agility.


Brief Profile
Abhinav Taduka is a seasoned Senior Architect and platform leader with more than two decades of experience designing, governing, and modernizing large-scale, mission-critical distributed systems across fintech, government, and enterprise environments.
He currently serves as Senior Architect and Lead in Operations Technology at iCreditWorks, where he provides architectural leadership for financial processing platforms supporting loan origination, servicing, repayment, and multi-network payment integrations. His work includes ACH, credit card, and virtual card integrations, reconciliation frameworks, reusable microservices architectures, cloud-native engineering, CI/CD automation, and enterprise observability.
Across previous roles with organizations including Covered California, the State of Rhode Island, Bank of America, Adobe, Pitney Bowes, and Walmart, he has led cloud migrations, enterprise integration programs, high-availability microservices implementations, performance engineering initiatives, and large-scale modernization programs.
His technical expertise includes Java, Golang, Python, Spring, Kafka, microservices, AWS, Kubernetes, DevOps automation, observability platforms, AI frameworks, and large language model orchestration.
