AI-Driven Open RAN Architectures and aspects: From Theory to Deployment

Abstract:

The evolution toward 6G networks demands highly scalable, intelligent, and interoperable Radio Access Network (RAN) architectures. Open RAN (O-RAN), with its disaggregated and software-driven components, offers the flexibility to embed AI-driven intelligence across the RAN stack. This talk explores AI-driven Open RAN with a focus on the design, components, and deployment of xApps within the Near-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller (Near-RT RIC). Drawing on practical insights from lab-tested prototypes, we demonstrate how Kubernetes-based orchestration enables dynamic scaling of xApps based on real-time network load and compute demands. The discussion includes resource optimization techniques and deployment strategies that bridge the gap between AI model development and real-world xApp integration.
