Software-Defined Vehicles: Building the Next Generation of Safe, Intelligent, and Connected Mobility

Abstract:

Abstract:The automotive industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation from hardware-centric vehicle development toward software-defined vehicle (SDV) architectures that enable greater intelligence, connectivity, adaptability, and safety. This keynote explores how next-generation vehicle architectures are being shaped by centralized computing, AUTOSAR-based software platforms, service-oriented communication, AI-driven diagnostics, and intelligent steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire technologies. The session will discuss the role of functional safety, fault-tolerant design, predictive diagnostics, and cybersecurity in developing reliable software-defined vehicles. It will also examine how artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches can improve fault detection, system health monitoring, and decision-making for safety-critical vehicle functions. Special attention will be given to the evolution from traditional distributed electronic control units toward scalable and service-oriented vehicle architectures, as well as the engineering challenges associated with integrating steering, braking, ADAS, and other safety-critical systems. The keynote will highlight practical approaches for achieving reliable communication, graceful degradation, system- level fault management, and safe vehicle operation. Finally, the presentation will discuss how these technologies collectively contribute to the future of safe, intelligent, connected, and continuously evolving mobility, while identifying key opportunities and engineering challenges that researchers, automotive engineers, and technology developers must address as software increasingly defines vehicle functionality.
